Emergency Rental Assistance Funding Applications Opened June 1

Rental Assistance from State Funding

Jun 02, 2021

Don't wait! If you are owed rent arrears from the COVID-related period starting March 13, 2020 until now, Landlords can apply for rental assistance on behalf of a Tenant. The Tenant must cooperate and verify the information being sent to the state, but opening an Landlord account and filing is a MUST for landlords who have been housing non-paying tenants for over 15 months. This is the website for the application.  https://nysrenthelp.otda.ny.go...

Here are some basic things to consider.

The first 30 days of the application period will prioritize Tenants who are at or below 50% of Area Median Income. HUD provides these numbers here. https://www.huduser.gov/portal... Priority will also go to Tenants who are in buildings with 20 units or less, and 35% of the available money ($2.3 billion) must go to locations outside of NYC.

Use the form provided below (Landlord Tenant Statement) to quantify the arrears you are owed. You can give this form to your Tenant so that they can use the information when they verify the application online.

Tenants and Landlords can get assistance in filling out the application from a your county-identified Community Partners. See those agencies at this link. https://otda.ny.gov/programs/e...

If you have a Uncooperative Tenant, we suggest you still create a Landlord account and try to link to that Tenant by SS# or Date of Birth. If you are denied funding, please watch this 3-minute video and fill out this statewide survey, hosted by Under One Roof (a statewide landlord advocacy group).

If you have any questions about this process, please contact Finger Lakes Landlords through our Contact form.
